WELCOME TO THE YOUNG ADULTS WEBSITE

  About Us

Troy Jordan is the director and developer of yaMinistry.com and he oversees the planning and hosting of events for the Belton Assembly of God Young Adults ministry. Troy felt a calling to young adults ministry after traveling to Australia during the summer of 2005 and visiting a church there with a vibrant young adults ministry that is reaching the surrounding community in a big way. This coupled with the realization that of students graduating high school who profess faith, only 50% of them will still acknowledge their faith at the end of college. That means that the church is losing at least 50% of the most energetic and creative people that could be reaching this generation for Christ. Jesus is the true leader of YA and we want to encourage you to follow Troy and the other leaders as they follow Christ. It is God's compassionate care for the souls of young adults that compels Troy and others to reach out to young adults -- spending numerous hours dedicated to finding new and creative ways of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with this Chosen Generation.

We are geographically-based in Belton, Missouri at 200 B Street and we are reaching out to Belton, Raymore, Peculiar, Grandview, Kansas City, Overland Park, Shawnee Mission, and the surrounding areas.

A Chosen Generation - Words from Troy Jordan

Our theme for this year and possible forever is "A Chosen Generation". We believe that God has a special calling for this generation of young adults. A calling towards leadership and towards an unshakable committment to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Just this week I heard that teens and young adults of today are more likely to visit a church service than their parents. The radio program stated that this is the first time that this has been true in about 50 years. To me that says that this generation of young people is actually wiser than several generations preceding them.

At 32 some people may wonder why I would want to focus on reaching a generation younger than me rather than my own peer group. The short answer is I don't know. All I can say is that God has placed a special interest in my heart for this generation.

I believe that the position of the American church rests in large part on the spirituality of those who are young adults today. They are the leaders of the whole church within the next 10 years. We cannot stop investing in them when they reach 18 like so many churches are doing. Many churches have an attitude like "We got them this far under our wings and now they will be tested for what they are made of." This is not a scriptural view of the church body. There is never a time in our development when we are to be ignored and left on our own to wonder around. There are some who seem to think that it is normal to turn away from God and then find Him again after you get married, settle down and start thinking about kids. How ludicrous!

The truth of the matter is that this generation is more willing to come to church and get involved in faith based ministry than previous generations. That means the full weight and responsibility of so many young adults leaving their faith rests squarely on us -- the church of Jesus Christ. I dare say that it is not Jesus Christ who as fault, but that as a whole, we his servants have been falling short. Alas, there is a positive end to this diatribe. We are doing something about it.

If you feel the kind of conviction about this that I do, then I want to invite you to join our ministry team in some way. Maybe as a prayer partner, financial partner, or possible as a young adults sponsor who comes and helps work events. There is an almost endless possibility of things that you can do to reach young adults. If you have an attitude of mutual respect towards young adults and you are a solid believer in Christ Jesus, we want you.
